Dr. Tina Duong
Hi! Thanks for taking an interest in our practice. I was born and raised in Long Beach, California where I attended the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA) and obtained my Bachelors of Science degree in biochemistry. Being a true UCLA Bruin, I decided to also pursue my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS) at UCLA. It was during a volunteer dental mission in Mexico that I realized my passion was to be with kids and help them achieve better oral health.
This led me to dedicate my career to specialize in children where I completed my residency in pediatric dentistry at UCLA. I had the opportunity to work with medical experts at the world famous Rady's Children's Hospital in San Diego, California where I had extensive experience working with children with special needs. I also have experience working at the San Ysidro Community Health Clinic working with low-income populations. No matter what these children's backgrounds were, my goal as a pediatric dentist was always the same: to create a positive dental experience and work with families to find ways to prevent dental cavities.
After my residency program, I wanted to experience life outside of California, and decided to move to Upstate New York working at a community clinic serving the low-income families of Rochester, NY. While living in Rochester, my husband, a Toronto native, and I frequented weekend trips to Toronto. It was at those times where I fell in love with Canada appreciating its ethnic diversity, friendliness and multiculturalism. We then decided to make the move to Burlington to start our family here. I look forward to my new life in Burlington and hope to become a leader and child advocate in Burlington's medical community
Dr. Avin Gupta
Hello and Welcome to my practice! Originally born and raised in downtown Toronto, I attended the University of Toronto where I obtained a Honors Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Political Science.
I then moved to historic Philadelphia to attend the 2nd oldest dental school in the Americas, Temple University where I obtained a combined Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD) and Masters of Public Heath Degree (MPH). I felt that obtaining a MPH in addition to my DMD was important because I understand that teeth are connected to people who are part of families that make up communities. This allowed me to approach dentistry from not only a clinical perspective, but also from a community one emphasizing prevention on a larger scale.
My passion for children and being a true kid at heart led me to further education and training in pediatrics at the prestigious University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in beautiful Southern California. It was there that I became an expert in the growth and development and behavior management of children learning from the world's top experts in the field.
After receiving my certification as a specialist in Pediatric Dentistry, and wanting to be close to Toronto, I moved back to the East Coast where I practiced in a private practice and community clinic in upstate New York. However, it was not close enough and being a true Toronto boy and diehard Maple Leaf fan, I decided to return home. I noticed that not only was Burlington a beautiful place to settle down and raise a family but it had an unmet need in pediatric dental health.
As Burlington's only board certified pediatric dental specialist, I strive to be the leading voice for children's dental health within our community and I hope you choose me to be part of your medical family.
One of our main goals as pediatric dentists is to have your child be excited about their dental visits so they look forward to visiting us again and again. How do we accomplish that? By providing a child-focused, nurturing atmosphere and having the patience to take the time needed to build a bond with your child. Not only does this enable us to address all of your parental concerns but it allows us to build trust with your child so we can provide quality dental care, often without the need of sedation.
Our practice prides itself in emphasizing prevention. We accomplish this by providing a wide range of professional pediatric preventative dental care including diagnostic examinations, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, risk assessments and parent/patient education. We want our parents to be the most well informed parents out there and we enjoy educating our patients about proper oral hygiene and diet in hopes that they can help us prevent future problems. If your child is examined and determined to have dental decay, we also provide restorative dentistry, extractions, space maintenance, and treatment of oral trauma. We will always discuss your child’s treatment options with you beforehand in full detail so you can make an informed decision about your child's health.
We cater to each child’s unique and individual needs. Our staff has excellent training in behavior modification techniques and we’re highly skilled in managing a child’s short attention span and curiosity. Our exam rooms are equipped with ceiling mounted TVs to help create a fun distraction! If necessity arises, we may recommend the use of “laughing gas” or sedation techniques to complete dental treatment while allowing your child to fully relax. We are happy to discuss all available behaviour management techniques to ensure that your child grows up with a beautiful smile!
Every examination includes an assessment of your child’s developing teeth and any spacing/crowding of the jaw. We can determine if teeth are erupting in proper positions, if teeth are genetically missing or if your child is unique and has extra teeth. This assessment can also determine if early braces, usually recommended around 8-10 years old, will be needed to prevent crowding and appearance issues as your child’s teeth grow. We strive to address problems early to not only prevent bigger problems in the future but to get the best results possible.
Dont worry! We are here for you. If your child has a dental emergency, please call our office as soon possible. We will always have time to address your child in pain.
